For fun I decided to scratch the itch that is Craigslist. I wanted to explore a quick solution to cleaning it up without having to do a massive amount of reworking. So I cleaned up the interface, organized information into more relevant groups as well as modernized some of the details of the interactions and user inputs. By removing extraneous link colors and elements it makes the interface uncomplicated and much easier locate information. And at the top, the search bar is the main focus, as most people coming to Craigslist probably know what they are looking for, and searching is the fastest way to find it. Refreshing the font choice also made sense - Gotham is a great face, with clean lines, lots of weight choices and available for web kit.
The branding definitely needed some freshening up but it didn't need to be overdone. Since Craigslist is about the lists, not the branding or busy visuals, just gave the text a modern treatment. So the "logo" is just a more modern typeface and treatment of the classic Craigslist peace sign as an interplay with the logo type without it becoming a mark. I utilized an aqua color for branding and call out elements in the interface to give it a friendly feeling without causing eye strain.
I also showed the responsiveness of the site by organizing the elements as they would be seen in a mobile environment. Some elements get re-worked into a simpler navigation to keep the focus to the content.
